THERAPY IN AUSTIN FOR
Attachment Trauma/Developmental Trauma (CPTSD)
Are you feeling stuck in a cycle of unhealthy relationships and struggling to connect with others on a deep level?Attachment trauma, often stemming from childhood experiences, can manifest in complex ways throughout adulthood. If you find yourself constantly seeking approval, fearing abandonment, or struggling to trust others, you may be grappling with the effects of attachment trauma. Let's explore how we can break free from these patterns and build healthier relationships.
What is attachment trauma?
Attachment trauma, often referred to as developmental trauma, or Complex PTSD, often stems from early life experiences that disrupted your sense of safety, security, or connection with those who were supposed to care for you. This type of trauma isn’t always about one big, obvious event. It can be the result of ongoing patterns, like neglect, emotional unavailability, or inconsistent caregiving.
When these early relationships don’t provide the stability and nurturing you need, it can leave lasting effects on how you see yourself, how you relate to others, and how you handle stress. You might find yourself struggling with feelings of unworthiness, anxiety, or difficulty trusting others. Maybe you notice patterns in your relationships that seem to repeat, leaving you feeling stuck or unfulfilled.
Trauma symptoms can show up in various ways—struggles with intimacy, chronic self-doubt, emotional numbness, or even physical symptoms like chronic pain or fatigue.
It can feel overwhelming, but it’s important to know that these responses are rooted in how your brain and body adapted to survive those early experiences.
Therapy can be incredibly powerful in healing attachment and developmental trauma.
It’s about creating a safe, trusting relationship where you can explore these patterns, understand their origins, and begin to change them. We might use approaches like somatic therapy, ART, or various models of talk therapy, to help you process the trauma stored in your body and mind.
I understand that every client has different needs. That there is no one-size-fits-all approach to trauma counseling. And many of my clients also have a history of anxiety, depression, or grief. That’s why I take an open-ended, relational approach to PTSD treatment. That’s also why I’ve spent my career building up a toolbox of therapeutic methods. I weave them into sessions as I go.
